DSpace pricing

DSpace is an open source system, meaning the software is free to anyone to download, install and use.

However, in offering a fully hosted services platform for DSpace we aim to solve the practical problems organisations have in actually deploying the DSpace repository. Providing a web-enabled server to run it on, installing and configuring the application, migrating existing data if any, training the staff and sourcing the technical skills to support and update the software are non-trivial undertakings for many library operations.

On top of that there are the extra tools, know-how and integration experience that only comes from detailed experience with the application.  For example, we can offer integration of DSpace with Koha to provide a unified catalogue of all items in the library, physical and electronic.  Another extension allows the export DSpace search results to EndNote.

This, together with your own branded instance of DSpace with the default workflow and metadata schema, shared data link, ongoing upgrades, bug fixes and email support, is covered by a small once-off setup and configuration cost of $1000 and a recurrent monthly hosting fee of $150 per month for up to 5GB of storage.

If you require more custom configuration with changes to the interface, additional metadata, customised workflow or additional integration we can undertake this work at our usual hourly rate for customisation and integration.  This will typically require the workshopping of requirements with the client, designing, prototyping, testing and implementing. Such work may cost between $3000 for straightforward customisations to $1000 for the more complex.

If you are migrating existing content into your DSpace repository we have tools that will do a bulk import of files in a directory, making use of the filename and the contents of any associated metadata files.  We are happy to provide you with these tools if you able to configure and run them, or you can commission us to do the migration for you.

We recommend utilising the services of handle.net for once-off registration for persistent URL's. This leaves open the option of eventually running Dspace internally in your own institution, should you wish, without having to adjust any links to your documents  - approximately $380 for 5 years
